Do you want to learn how to build:
- Complete Web-based applications
- Scalable e-business
systems
- Shopping cart eCommerce sites
- Database Web sites that integrate with XML
Then this is the course for you.
ColdFusion is designed to deliver on the key requirements
of eCommerce and enterprise Web applications.
ColdFusion is one of the most popular Internet technologies
used in the world today.
During this course you will acquire the knowledge
and hands-on practice needed to start building and maintaining dynamic
and effective Web applications using ColdFusion.
Build Database-Driven Pages With ColdFusion
Markup Language
The ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML), an extension of HTML, integrates
database information with your pages. In class, you will master
CFML and use it to build pages that enable users to search your
database, add records, edit records, and delete records. In addition,
we will review Structured Query Language (SQL), the language that
is used to communicate with most relational databases.
Harness the Power of ColdFusion Application
Server
Built-in CFML functions allow you to access the system date and
time, as well as perform powerful form validation and string manipulation.
You will learn to apply ColdFusion functions to streamline and enhance
your pages.
Debug and Foolproof Your ColdFusion Applications
You will learn how to troubleshoot CFML errors and SQL errors as
well as other bugs that may prevent your ColdFusion site from working
effectively and efficiently. Additionally, you will learn how to
prevent user mistakes and to protect against malicious users who
may adversely affect your site and its underlying data.
Reference Stored Procedures
Stored procedures offer several performance
and security improvements over passing uncompiled Structured Query
Language (SQL) statements to your database. They execute faster,
can simplify complex structures, and can reduce the number of developers
who need access to the raw records in your database. You will learn
not only how to access stored procedures through ColdFusion, but
also the appropriate place to apply them to your applications.
ColdFusion Studio
ColdFusion Studio is a powerful HTML and CFML editor, and it is chock-full of features designed to make Web page design and application development a whole lot easier. You will learn how to use the editor, the Tag Chooser, and the Expression Builder, as well as how to configure the environment to work the way you do.
Session State Management
ColdFusion offers several types of variables that can be used to pass information across multiple web pages. You will use Cookie, Session, and Client variables, which are essential to an application that needs to track individual visitors. You will also learn about Application and Server variables to store information global to the application or the server.
Manipulate Files on the Server
In many cases, you will want your ColdFusion pages to be able to manipulate documents and files on the server. For example, you can read from and write to text files; copy, rename, and delete files; create directories; and even process file uploads.
ColdFusion Studio
ColdFusion provides a scheduling mechanism
enabling you to create batch-like ColdFusion templates that run
at prescheduled times. You will explore how these scheduled events
can be used to create static Web pages out of dynamic data sources.
You can also use them to generate email-based reports and to maintain
up-to-date indexes for the Verity search engine.

Build Reusable Components
ColdFusion allows you to write and use your own CFML tags. These tags enable you to build your ColdFusion applications more rapidly and quickly share code among applications.
Handle Errors and Exceptions
Due to unforeseen actions by your users, databases, or Web server, errors will occur in your ColdFusion applications from time to time. We will teach you how to have your ColdFusion applications respond intelligently to exceptions.
Integrate the Verity Search Engine With Your
ColdFusion Pages
Verity is the powerful site-search engine included with ColdFusion Application Server. When you integrate Verity with your site, your users will be able to search for just the topics they need, and see the results sorted in the appropriate order.
