FAQ: Approaching Resource Limit09 Dec

If you have received an email notification in regards to Approaching Resource Limit this means that either your Web Hosting statistics have been capped:

Total Traffic

Traffic is the data transferred to and from your website by your visitors plus the data transferred to and from your mailbox by incoming and outgoing mail. You can also have other types of traffic that make up your Total Traffic:

FTP User Upload your files to your web account. If you have any FTP sub-accounts, their traffic will be included here, too.
Virtual FTP Authorised or anonymous internet users download, upload or view files in your virtual FTP directories. If you administer your account through dedicated IP, it will be also added to Virtual FTP Traffic.
Mail E-mail messages are sent or received.
HTTP Internet visitors browse your web site(s).
Real Server FTP Internet users download media files from your RealServer directory.
Real User FTP You upload your media files to your RealServer directory.

Traffic Cycle
Regardless of account’s billing period, traffic usage is calculated at the end of traffic cycle which is one month or less if traffic cycle is forced to close with a traffic limit change or other events, such as billing period closure, changing to another billing period, or other plan.

For example, if you sign up on March 7 for a billing period of 6 months, traffic will be closed and reset on the 7th of each month – a calendar cycle.

The traffic run up during the last day of the traffic cycle is transferred to the next traffic cycle calculations.

FAQ

FAQ: Delegating Your Domain18 Nov

Delegating your Domain, also known as changing your name servers, means that you are assigning your domains name server to a specific location – the exact DNS (domain name server) address will determine where your Domain Name will point to.

Example. My website www.mywebsite.com has DNS with the Primary ns1.newwebserver.com and the Secondary ns2.newwebserver.com – these Domain Name Servers are based on your Web Hosting. Currently, www.mywebsite.com is pointing to Alive Domains Domain Name Server on Alive’s Web Hosting.

To modify or add your name server settings follow these steps below:

  1. Login to your Alive Domains (click here) Account – Alive Domain Name Registrar
  2. The top navigation panel, click on “Manage Domain”
  3. A page will appear, click on My Domain Names link
  4. Select the desired Domain Name you are wanting to manage by clicking the + icon
  5. Your Domain details will appear in a on-screen drop down, click on Modify DNS
  6. Enter your desired Web Hosting DNS, Primary and Secondary, the current DNS can be deleted and updated.

An approximate of 24hours is needed for your DNS settings to propagate the change-over and take effect, this cannot be controlled as it’s standard protocol.
