FAQ: Delegating Your Domain18 Nov
Delegating your Domain, also known as changing your name servers, means that you are assigning your domains name server to a specific location – the exact DNS (domain name server) address will determine where your Domain Name will point to.
Example. My website www.mywebsite.com has DNS with the Primary ns1.newwebserver.com and the Secondary ns2.newwebserver.com – these Domain Name Servers are based on your Web Hosting. Currently, www.mywebsite.com is pointing to Alive Domains Domain Name Server on Alive’s Web Hosting.
To modify or add your name server settings follow these steps below:
- Login to your Alive Domains (click here) Account – Alive Domain Name Registrar
- The top navigation panel, click on “Manage Domain”
- A page will appear, click on My Domain Names link
- Select the desired Domain Name you are wanting to manage by clicking the + icon
- Your Domain details will appear in a on-screen drop down, click on Modify DNS
- Enter your desired Web Hosting DNS, Primary and Secondary, the current DNS can be deleted and updated.
An approximate of 24hours is needed for your DNS settings to propagate the change-over and take effect, this cannot be controlled as it’s standard protocol.
